Now, we’re not a vegan family, though we do often eat vegan food. Bear has gotten on board with it – a little. While I’m trying to get him away from so much dairy, I’m also not pressuring him to go vegan. I figure that’s a choice he can make when he gets older.
Nevertheless, since Bear has been in school, I have been trying to give him healthy snacks do have anything to do with fast food or junk food. Then, I remembered we have a ton of food in our house and voila, this kid should not be hungry after school ever again.
Here are my top picks for after-school snacks!
Rainbow Skewers
Remember when your doctor told you to eat your colors? Well, so can your kid. It’s fun, but I do suggest for the real little ones, to take the fruit off the skewers first.
Apple Nachos w/ vegan caramel
I love Pinch of Yum (and I’ll post another recipe of theirs later in this post), and she had an amazing recipe for vegan caramel here. I suggest you try it, even if you’re not vegan!
Applesauce w/graham crackers
Pretty self-explanatory isn’t it? You don’t have to eat them together, but it is worth a shot.
Dried fruit
Dried fruit has a lot of benefits, but one of the most important (and overlooked)
Kale Chips
I became of kale chips when I was pregnant with Ethan. I ate something that my body did not like and an attorney I worked for suggested kale chips to ease the nausea. I ended up falling in love with the chips and I cannot stop raving about them.
Fresh veggies with Hummus
This is probably the simplest of snack ideas on here. Another good alternative to hummus is nut cheese.
Air-popped popcorn
My Granny used to make air-popped popcorn when I was a child and I’ve always enjoyed it. While Bear is still warming up to the idea of healthier popcorn, he does like how light and fluffy it tastes.
Vegan yogurt (with fresh fruit)
I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but I’m eager to since it’s allegedly only five minutes to do!
Homemade granola
I’m totally in love with the food blog, Cookie & Kate (and I highly encourage you to check them out!) and when she posted an amazing recipe for homemade granola, well, hell, count me in!
And you know what? You can also pair that with the vegan yogurt!
Chips and salsa
For those who were antsy about trying some of the other ideas, it’s pretty hard to mess up chips and salsa. If you’re not going to make your own, I strongly advise to carefully look at the ingredients on the back of the jar/can.
What are some of your favorite vegan go-tos?
